Onshape Status Review

Onshape Status Review

Onshape Status Review : In this post we will see how to check if Onshape the CAD on Cloud tool is operational or is down for some maintenance work or is down due to network outage.

Any services running on cloud needs to be up and operational 24/7 and 365 days a year. Although even after running on one of the world’s top service providers like Amazon AWS – called as Amazon Web Services, there are chances of some disruption which can make the program go down due to maintenance or internet down time at a much higher level. In situations like these, its essential to keep yourself updated on the status of working of Onshape. To enable users keep updated on the issues they might face due to down time or hotfixes, I suggest users to keep a regular check on the link

http://status.onshape.com/

This link gives users complete information on the up time or down time of the Onshape Software, there by enabling them to know the issues they face is at a global level or at a local level and appx time the issues will be resolved or when the issue was resolved.

Onshape has gone a long way beyond the users requirement and enabled this concept of updating end users or customers about the up time or down time of Onshape functionality.

Onshape Status

Note: A user can look at the Incident History to see the different reasons for down time by visiting the link

http://status.onshape.com/history

From the list above, it is evident that the down time related to Onshape software is just 0.03% since start of the Onshape services.

I would confidently suggest, using Onshape a Cloud CAD tool for all your design and engineering needs as they are a reliable and economical CAD Company.

Onshape Offers Two Factor Authentication

Onshape Offers Two Factor Authentication

Onshape Offers Two Factor Authentication : Did you know that your personal data or (IP) on cloud was considered to be a nightmare few years back as some one might steal your data and move away. On the other hand, security of the CAD Data was considered to be top priority by designers and engineers when CAD was first introduced to the cloud. Although there was resistance to adopting CAD on Cloud, time has changed where in now CAD Data on cloud is considered to be a safe solution as compared to leaving in your company’s server or your desktop machine.

Is my CAD Data Secure in the cloud ?

In today’s scenario, with Desktop CAD, there are possibilities of your design data being shared or stolen through email / thumb drive / storage devices etc. Although this issue is sorted out when you work on a laptop, but there are other possible situations which can lead to connecting unsecured networks leading to probable virus attack or the network designed to steal your personal information.

So, in today’s post, we will see how to enable Onshape Two Factor Authentication

Onshape Offers Two Factor Authentication

When you Register for a new Onshape Account  you will be able to access Onshape using your email and password that you registered during setting up your account. Onshape provides the support of enabling / accessing your account any place any time. Hence using sophisticated hardware and software installations relevant to your Onshape requirement is not much and also requirement of dot net files for updating your windows version is not needed when working with Onshape software.  Once you are aware that Onshape requires you to remember your username and password for accessing your CAD files, these become essential prerequisites for a user. However there are situations where a user tends to save the user name and password in the computer where Onshape is to be worked frequently and in any given instance, when a new user or another user from the same company access your computer, security of your project or IP is lost. Hence using Two Factor Authentication becomes mandatory.

How to access / enable two factor authentication ?

Step 1: Login to your Onshape Account

Step 2: At the Top Right Corner of the Onshape Account Click on the inverted triangle and click on Manage Account

Onshape Account Access

Step 3: Click on Security and access the Two Factor Authentication process.

Once you install the Google Authenticator APP, open the app and scan the QR Code, you will be prompted with a 6 digit code that you can enter to activate the 2FA process.

Note: For every 30 seconds you will receive new codes from the phone that you can enter to access Onshape Account.

Onshape Authenticator Option

You will now get access to 5 codes that you can use for a later date to authenticate the Onshape account when you don’t have access to your mobile or use the codes that are generated every 30 seconds from your phone.

Offline Authentication

Hope you are now able to clearly understand the workflow on how to access Onshape 2FA and protect your IP. I guess the post Onshape Offers Two Factor Authentication was of some help to you.

Note: Onshape provides you with 5 active recovery codes at a time. Keep these codes in a place accessible to you separate from your device or the authentication app.

Onshape will not be able to help you should you delete the app or lose your phone.

Note that you can generate these Recovery codes at any time through the Onshape interface, but only the most recently generated series are active at any one time. Once you use a code it is no longer valid. When you generate a new list of codes, all previous codes (used or unused) become invalid.
